I
am based in south-west London, within easy reach of The National
Archives at Kew. This gives me convenient access to one of the most
important collections of historical records in the UK, allowing me to
carry out research efficiently and in depth without the delays and
costs associated with long-distance travel. When
it comes to earlier records—particularly those dating from before
1800—many are held in local record offices rather than central
repositories. For this reason, I specialise in researching families
from London and the Home Counties (listed below), where I can readily
visit archives and access original documents. That said, I am by no means limited to these areas. I am always happy to research families from elsewhere in the UK, and often do so as part of wider projects. Family history rarely stays neatly within one location. In fact, it’s far more common for families to have moved over time. From the mid-nineteenth century onwards, the expansion of the railways transformed mobility, making travel more affordable and accessible. As a result, many people relocated—often from rural areas to growing towns and cities—leaving records scattered across different regions. With this in mind, I take a flexible and wide-ranging approach to research, following your ancestors wherever their story leads.
